“Don’t think that there’s a different, better child ‘hiding’ behind the autism.
This is your child. Love the child in front of you. Encourage her strengths, celebrate her quirks, and improve her weaknesses, the way you would with any child.”

Why give?

I have always been a tenacious artist and loved all kinds of challenges. This helps with raising Atypical children, which brings a myriad of obstacles. My daughters autism is different for each of them. My youngest likes to elope from my house and run for the very close freeway exit by our house. She has escaped through doors, windows, gates, and even broke a fence board out of our side gate one time. My middle child has an affinity for destruction and self harm. She regularly destroys toys and eats non-food items which causes her distress. When she is unable to clearly express herself she will hit her head against hard objects and smack herself involuntarily. This is incredibly stressful for her and those around her. Can you imagine spending nine years in a mostly functional and healthy body but unable to speak and say what you need? It must be the hardest for them. My daughters autism greatly affects them which creates challenges for going out into the community. We rarely have any playdates or go to the park without excessive supervision because they would run into danger without a second thought or even leave all together without saying anything to anyone. This is a huge reality for lots of families in the Autism community. We spent 6 years in ABA therapy for them from ages two and a half to eight and continue to work with them through various programs using multiple therapy methods. My hope and goals are ever evolving and changing but here is a breakdown of my intentions with this fundraiser…

If a financial contribution is not your thing you can also support the twins by sending them something from their gift list. These girls do a number on their toys and are always appreciative of new stimulation. We appreciate anything you can do. Thank you!
